Orange County Land Trust to Hold Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to Celebrate Move into Mills' House on Mulberry Street

Middletown, NY August 17, 2007

The Orange County Land Trust will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, September 7, 2007 from 4-6 pm at the historic Mills House located at 10 Mulberry Street in downtown Middletown.

The event will celebrate the official move of the Orange County Land Trust offices into the former family home of the land trust's founder, Louis V. Mills, who was also Orange County's first county executive. The Victorian-era home is currently owned by the City of Middletown.

Participating in this ceremony will be Middletown Mayor Marlinda Duncanson, and Assemblywoman Aileen M. Gunther, who along with County Executive Edward A. Diana, played an integral role in the land trust's move into their new office space. Others invited to attend include Congressman Maurice Hinchey and Congressman John Hall, and members of the Middletown Common Council, as well as the many individual and corporate supporters of the Orange County Land Trust. Special thanks will go to those individuals and businesses that helped support this move through the donation of services.

According to Executive Director James Delaune, the relocation marks an exciting time for the Orange County Land Trust. "This move into additional office space will enable us to grow and conserve more land in and around Orange County, preserving more of what makes this area a beautiful place to live."

He added "the work we did in retrofitting the building for our needs was in keeping with our philosophy of utilizing green building materials and techniques".

Built in the 1880's, the home was in the Mills' family for several generations. Most recently, it served as the home of the Mulberry House Senior Citizens Center. Family pictures and memorabilia will be displayed at the event. Refreshments will be provided by local growers and locally-owned businesses.

The Orange County Land Trust is a nonprofit organization committed to protecting open space through voluntary land preservation and conservation. For more information, visit our web site at www.oclt.org.
