Orange County Land Trust to Hold “Slippery, Slimy Salamander Walk” at Fuller Mountain Preserve, Warwick

Middletown, NY (OCLT)

Middletown, NY (OCLT): The Orange County Land Trust will hold its very popular “Slippery, Slimy Salamander Walk” on Saturday, April 24 beginning at 10 am at the Land Trust’s 255-acre Fuller Mountain Preserve off Bowen Road in the Town of Warwick.

John Yrizarry, noted naturalist and artist, will lead this family friendly, hands-on discovery experience, taking participants along a ¾ mile trail that leads to Fuller’s Brook. He will identify and discuss the habits and habitats of these hard to find creatures. All are encouraged to wear mud boots!

Stretching along a ravine from Black Rock Road to the New Jersey border, Fuller Mountain Preserve is host to a variety of wildlife and will remain forever pristine under Land Trust ownership and management. In addition to salamanders, the wetlands are full of frogs and toads and the woods are home to numerous species of mammals including the long-tailed weasel and the black bear. It is also home to an abundance of bird life. The preserve is open to the public every day of the year, from dawn to dusk, for passive recreation such as hiking, photography and nature study.

Registration is suggested as space is limited. A donation of $5 per person, or $10 per family, is greatly appreciated with all donations going towards land protection and conservation in Orange County. For more information and registration, please call the Orange County Land Trust at (845) 343-0840, x 12. In case of inclement or questionable weather, cancellation and rescheduling information will be recorded the morning of the hike.
